Until the 1980s, Bhutan was isolated from the rest of the world by its Himalayan geography, poor infrastructure and poor international relations. In 2008, the country adopted a multiparty constitutional democracy and implemented a new constitution that affords a greater level of religious freedom, but Christians still face many challenges. Most Christians in Bhutan are of Nepali heritage, and believers are focused on reaching the ethnic Bhutanese with the message of Christ. Via: Voice of the Martyrs
Way to pray: Pray that Christians will have discipleship opportunities, despite government restrictions.
Phil and Debbie Melton had served in Japan with EBM since the 1980s. They serve three churches in the cities of Seki, Kani, and Sakaohogi, and have been working on the completion of Camp Raphayada, a 120-person Christian camp facility in Mugi Cho. Their ministry is expanding annually, and they are seeing individuals follow Jesus with some committing to serve him in full-time ministry. Phil and Debbie have six children and eight grandchildren. After over 30 years as missionaries they are now serving with IBM Global.
Way to Pray: Please pray for ongoing construction and camp projects at Camp Raphayada as well as at the church and at Phil's parent’s place. Please pray for the Meltons kids who are in various forms of ministry in Japan and in the states. Please pray for Phil and Deb as they care for aging parents. Finally, pray for their own health!
