Summer Internship Program

Pursuing life and mission with Jesus means that we want to replicate Jesus’ model of discipleship. One of the many ways we do this is through our summer internship program, designed to give college students the opportunity to serve, study, and lead alongside the staff at Fellowship Greenville.

This eleven-week program includes having interns in our following ministries: Children's, Student, Pastoral, Outreach, Worship, Family, Communications/Media, Events/Connection, and Group Leader & Young Adult.

While our ministry supervisors will help each specific intern with their daily and weekly responsibilities, the interns also collectively gather three mornings each week for classes on various topics such as the gospel, leadership, mission, worship, and more. Our desire is to help equip college students to think well about Jesus and his church in both theological and practical ways.

Who should apply?

Fellowship Greenville’s internship is not only for the student that feels called to formal church ministry. This summer experience is a perfect context in which to be discipled and grow in your understanding of what it looks like to be the church. Broadly, all applicants must exemplify a desire for Christ-likeness and love for the church.

Beyond this, applicants must have completed one year of college or be 19 or older, support the mission and vision of Fellowship Greenville, and submit both the Fellowship Greenville job application and internship questionnaire. Selected applicants will then be interviewed in person.

Do interns get paid?

Yes. Fellowship Greenville will provide each intern will a small stipend for the summer as well as cover some various other costs of ministry.

Is lodging included?

Yes. For those interns not from the Greenville area, summer host homes are available and recommended.

Can I work in addition to the internship?

No. This is a full-time job that requires all of your time, energy, and passion in order to get the desired experience.

Must I be a member at Fellowship Greenville?

No. This internship is designed to help equip possible future leaders in the church regardless of your church attendance and membership outside of your summer with us.

HOW LONG DOES THE INTERNSHIP LAST?

The first day of the program is Sunday, May 19, and the last day is Tues, August 6. Each intern must be available to begin the program on the start date and work through to the end. No vacations will be granted during the first or last week of the program due to the impact these weeks have on the internship experience as a whole.

CAN I TAKE A SUMMER VACATION?

Yes, however, no more than two interns can be gone the same week; therefore, vacation is on a "first come, first serve" basis and must be approved. Please see FG's Intern Vacation Policy for additional details.

DO I GET VACATION TIME?

Yes, however, all vacation needs to be requested by the start of the internship when possible. No vacations will be granted during the first and last weeks of the program due to the impact these weeks have on the internship experience as a whole. Please see the FG Intern Vacation Policy for further details.

What are the expectations of the interns?

Each intern will be expected to

  • be involved in church life for approximately 30-35 hours per week (including attendance at one of our weekly gatherings on Sunday morning).
  • attend classes every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:15-10:00 a.m., covering a range of topics (i.e. gospel, leadership, worship, marriage, etc).
  • report to their specific ministry leader(s) for tasks and assignments throughout the week outside of their corporate expectations on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • complete a Meeting Attendance Record and an Interview Record that will help them continue to think about church life from the perspective of the different ministries within the church.
  • attend a retreat at the beginning of the summer (to prepare them) and the end of the summer (to debrief with them) concerning their internship experience.

How do I apply?

Return to this page between October 22 and February 1 to complete our online intern job application. The deadline to submit applications is February 1, 2019.  Before beginning your application, have a pastoral reference letter on hand to upload.
