"Working Out: Regular Exercises to Foster Spiritual Growth"

Spiritual vitality is not so much about getting more out of life as it is about doing life differently. Spiritual formation, often called sanctification, is the manner in which we increasingly live out our new life in Christ. Spiritual exercises are activities wherein we consciously enter into God's fellowship and commit to walk with him where he leads by reducing or eliminating whatever “natural blinders” prevent us from seeing the abundant life God offers us.

In this study we will survey many of the biblical and historical spiritual disciplines practiced by the saints of God seeking to be fed and strengthened by the Spirit to be fit for service to God. You are likely familiar with many spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, Bible reading, corporate worship, fasting, and holiday observances. But there are many other healthy disciplines Christian saints have incorporated into their daily, weekly, seasonal, or annual rhythms of life whereby they refocus, recharge, and partake in the life of God.

The goal of this study is for you to discover and implement healthy and wholesome spiritual growth habits appropriate to your stage of life. For example, making a pilgrimage or going on a mission trip may not be a good idea for a mother of preschoolers, but journaling, keeping the sabbath, or showing hospitality to other young mothers may open up many doors for a new mom to grow spiritually.

This survey of spiritual exercises will run for 7 weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Fellowship Greenville Main Campus beginning on January 28th, 2026. You will be provided with all of the necessary study resources when we convene. Please prayerfully consider joining us!
