Doing Good

Jason Malone - 3/9/2025

SERMON SUMMARY

As we have continued in our study through Galatians, we have continually emphasized that Christianity is not about following religious traditions or moral rules but about a relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul’s message to the Galatians challenges the false teachings that suggested that believers must adhere to the Jewish law to be right with God. Instead, Paul teaches that righteousness comes through faith in Christ alone. And that we have been empowered by the Spirit of God making true and lasting life change possible.

Over the past few weeks, we have turned our attention, via Paul, to the importance of community in the Christian life. Paul instructs believers to walk in step with the Spirit, emphasizing interdependence within the body of Christ. True transformation happens in relationships, where believers restore one another with gentleness, bear each other’s burdens, and hold each other accountable. Paul warns against self-deception, urging the Galatians to understand that actions have consequences—what one sows, one will reap. Living by the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, and other fruits of the Spirit while living by the flesh leads to destruction.

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, assuring them that their efforts will bear fruit in due season, even if the results are not immediately visible. This applies to our local church family. How are we “doing good” by serving and contributing to the Fellowship Greenville family? May we reflect on how we are sowing into our spiritual community and in the midst of our weariness at times…may we each Consider Jesus.

*We are a church located in Greenville, South Carolina. Our vision is to see God transform us into a community of grace passionately pursuing life and mission with Jesus.

SUGGESTIONS FOR COMMUNITY GROUP QUESTIONS

Remember, these are “suggested” questions. You do not have to go through every single one of them. In fact, some of these questions may prompt other questions that may be important to group members. So, feel free to explore other questions as long as they don’t become “rabbit trails.”

Opening Prayer: Begin by asking the Holy Spirit to open your hearts and minds to understand and apply the truths about our freedom in Christ.

Have someone read Galatians 6:9-10.

  1. Paul warns against deception in Galatians 6:7 and in other places in the letter to the Galatians. In what ways do you think Christians today might be deceived about their faith or spiritual growth?
  2. How does Paul’s teaching about sowing and reaping apply to our daily lives, particularly in our relationships with others?
  3. The sermon emphasized that much of our spiritual transformation happens in community. How can we more actively and intentionally support and encourage one another in our walk with Christ?
  4. Have you ever felt weary in doing good? How did you (or how can you) stay motivated to continue serving and loving others?
  5. In what ways can you personally “do good” within our church family and local community? What practical steps can you take this week to put this into action?
